Holiday 2009
This year I'm jetting off for two weeks in Vancouver and Alaska. We leave the UK on Wednesday
15th July for Vancouver. The following Sunday we board the cruise ship heading for the beautiful
landskape of Alaska! Returning the next Sunday, we stay in Vancouver once again until Wenesday 29th
when we fly back to London.
Remember to keep checking back to see what I'm up to in this year's blog!
Holiday Blog:
- Sunday 20/07/2009 08:01 — No Internet
- There will be no updates for a few days due to no mobile data at sea and a very expensive internet cafe.
- Sunday 19/07/2009 15:56 — Cruise Day
- Morning all! Yesterday we explored Stanley park. It was a fairly relaxing day, but not much to report.
Breakfast yesterday was very very good. We went to a restaurant called Zin, and I had a 3 cheese omelette.
Dinner last night was extremely good also. We ate in the hotel's very posh, 42nd floor, revolving restaurant.
We ordered a CAD$50 bottle of Beaujolais and I had a Goat Cheese with Almond and Strawberry salad, Vegetable Linguini and Green Tea Bruleé with Strawberry Coulis.
Today will be boring. We board the cruise ship for Alaska which means lots of waiting around and customs decs to fill in.
Blogs my not be as frequent on the cruise due to the high data cost. We're also close to land most of the time so the ship's GSM relay - the thing your phone connects to which then relays calls and data back to land, may have to be switched off a lot.
Ciao x

- Yesterday was fantastic. After breakfast, we took the seabus across to Londsdale Quay where we the bused to Grouse Mountain. To get to the top, 100 people cramb into a cable car. Whenever the car crosses a tower, a warning is announced as the car starts to swing! Everybody screams but we just thought it was no big deal.
When we got to the top, we went straight to the bar. I had two glasses of rosé and shared a huge basket of nachoes with Lynne.
After an hour or two, we wandered around the mountain. It was very very hot, yet there was still snow here and there. We watched a hilarious lumberjack show and saw a grizzly bear.
The bus home was so hot, I thought I'd pass out!
We had a short break when we got back to the hotel, then we had dinner at a Greek restaurant. The food was pretty good. I had Mousaka mmmm! None of us, bar vegan Charlotte, could resist the Baklava on the desert menu!
After having a hell of a lot to drink, we staggered back to the hotel and I hid in the closet before (literally) throwing off my clothes and getting into bed. Don't feel too bad this morning =]
- Friday 17/07/2009 07:01 — A Relaxing Day
- Well, today we had a rest from all the travelling. We went up to the revolving restaurant on the 42nd floor for breakfast. Melon then croissant then eggs, eggy-bread and hash browns! I was stuffed!
We then took a walk down to and around the harbour. Early afternoon, Charlotte and I walked back to Robson St - the main street in Vancouver and the street of our hotel. We did a little shopping (I just bought some lip balm from Lush for CAD$10) and ended up in a bar for some Corona and quesidillas (sp?).
We napped after that. The tiredness caught up with us!
Lynne, Martyn, Lesley and I just got back from dinner. Being on the main street in Vancouver, the restaurants are expensive but the food is incredible! Tonight I had a roasted beetroot and goats cheese salad.
We were going for a drink at the restaurant at the hotel again, but they seem to have closed early, so we've retired to our rooms, so at 22:57, I'm signing out. Night x
- Thursday 16/07/2009 07:17 — Entry 01
- Today's blog will be very short given that I've not properly slept for 45 hours. Having spent 22 hours traveling from Aldborough, Norfolk, to Vancouver, with three flights; London Gatwick to Dublin to Calgary to Vancouver, I'm shattered!
We didn't even know we had to land in Dublin, and we had to circle over Calgary for half an hour, waiting for a storm to clear so we can land. It was a bit of a white-knuckle landing and the plane twisted 3 or 4 times when we touched down rather fast and hard.
Oh well. I need sleep! Rememner, this part of Vancouver is 8 hours behind UK time. I'll post lat/long positions or a Google map tomorrow. Night!
- Saturday 11/07/2009 14:34 — Holiday blog set up for 2009
- The holiday blog is set-up and ready for another year. This time, many thanks to
Jack Everson for transcribing my blog to my website! =]
Photo and Video Galleries
Due to mobile data rates in the US, Canada and on-board the cruise ship exceeding £6 per MB, photos will
not appear until shortly after I return!
