Stupid Questions

Why do people ask such silly questions all the time?

"Going anywhere nice on holiday this year?"
"No actually. I was bored of having a nice time on holiday , so I decided to go somewhere not nice this year. We're actually spending two weeks in a caravan in Gt Yarmouth!"

You put your coat, scarf and shoes on and...
"Are you now going?"
"No actually, I'm planning on leaving in an hour or so, but I thought I would stand in the garden and wait, rather than stay in here in the warm and dry."

"I went out last night"
"You went out did you?"
"No actually, I just thought I'd randomly say 'I went out last night' for the fun of it; you really should give it a try sometime!"

Why do people ask these questions? Do they just not know what else to say? Do they lack the lingual or conversational skills needed for intellectual conversation? Do they just do it to wind me up?

...Perhaps more importantly, is it normal just how worked up I get about it? [lol]
